About LESA South

During the week of 26-31 December, LESA South will conduct a Basic and Advance Ground Team Member School. This activity is authorized by National Headquarters, and hosted by Texas Wing Operations. The training center is located at the Brownsville Composite Squadron HQ, SWR-TX-091, at the Brownsville / South Padre Island International Airport, in Brownsville, Texas. The training locations and facilities will be at or near the airport.

Lone Star Emergency Services Academy South offers a week of intensive training that prepares members for participation in CAP Emergency Services and allows cadets to work with non-CAP emergency management professionals with an eye toward career preparation. Training accomplished will be used to increase the number of qualified Mission Aircrew, Mission Staff, Mission Support Staff, Ground Team Members (GTM) 3 and 2, and advanced skills for GTM 1 and Ground Team Leaders (GTL). A Medical Orientation Training School will be provided to train members to serve as first responders. The Communications School will focus on training members on the use of the various CAP radios and frequencies. Curriculum from the CAP National Emergency Services Academy, NASAR, military medic training, and Texas-specific training will be used to implement the training.

Basic and Advanced ground team skills will be taught and learned to improve leadership ability through field classroom and practical exercises. LESA South will conduct Emergency Services training leading toward the following certifications:

  • Ground Team certification as a GTM-3, GTM-2, GTM-1, GTL, MSA, PIO, GBD.
  • Urban Search and Rescue Training
  • Airport Ramp Checks

Other activities include:

  • Practical simulated mission
  • Practical exersices in teamwork and leadership
  • Overnight bivouac will be for the entire training school (26 Dec. until 31 Dec.)

The primary purpose of this activity is to provide basic skills for Ground Team Members (GTM) 3 and 2, and advance skills for GTM 1 and Ground Team Leaders (GTL) skills in ground search and rescue to eligible cadets and seniors.

In addition to the above, members participating in the LESA South: Cadets: Be C/SrA or above, Minimum 14 years of age, GES qualified, Bring a complete 72 hour pack to the training, and Physical Category I (must pass CPFT upon arrival and end of course for graduation). Have already attended an encampment. Senior Members: Complete Level 1/ CPPT, GES qualified, Working knowledge of drill and ceremonies (talk to your cadets), and Complete 72 hour pack.

Additional requirements are included with additional paperwork and OP's plan located on www.lesasouth.com. Physical Category I (must be able to complete senior physical assessment test upon arrival and be able to carry 72 pack while on a mission)
